What does a triple-pane window actually do?
Three sheets of glass, two sealed cavities. In our standard build each cavity is argon-filled, two surfaces carry a low-E coating, and a warm-edge spacer separates the panes. Every extra layer of still gas slows heat leaving the room. You feel it as a warmer inside pane and less cold air falling down the glass.
Does ENERGY STAR in Canada require triple-pane?
No. The ENERGY STAR Canada specification counts performance, not panes. Under Natural Resources Canada's Version 5.0 (January 1, 2020), a window qualifies with a U-factor of 1.22 W/m²·K or lower, or an Energy Rating of 34 or higher. So ask for the rated number, not the pane count.
What does a triple-pane window cost per opening in Calgary?
Installed prices per opening in Canadian dollars, by REHAU line and wall type, from our published price table. Triple-pane glass, GU hardware and disposal of the old window are included. What moves a price inside its band is on the 2026 cost page; add up a house with the cost estimator.
| REHAU line | Standard retrofit | Stucco or brick wrap | Custom shape or structural |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brilliant Design (70 mm) | $1,800–2,400 | $2,200–2,800 | $2,800–3,800 |
| Synego (80 mm) | $2,300–3,000 | $2,800–3,500 | $3,400–4,600 |
| Artevo (80 mm) | $3,500–4,800 | $4,200–5,500 | $5,000–7,500 |
What should the quote say about the glass?
"Triple-pane" alone is not a spec. A proper line reads like this: REHAU Brilliant Design 70 mm, triple-pane, warm-edge spacer, argon fill, low-E coating. If a quote only says "triple-pane vinyl", you can't compare it with anything. The free Window Quote Check flags exactly these gaps.
Is the glass the whole story?
Not quite. The glass sits in a frame, and the frame sits in your wall. If the sash leaks air, the third pane can't save the room. On a tilt-and-turn, the handle drives multi-point hardware that pulls the sash against a continuous gasket. How the frame goes into the wall is on installation methods.
What warranty covers the triple-pane glass?
25 years on the uPVC frames and sashes, 10 years on sealed glass units, 10 years on hardware, and 2 years on installation parts and labour. It transfers to a new owner for 10 years from installation, with proof of purchase. REHAU backs the materials warranty; PWS provides the installation warranty. Full terms: what the warranty covers.
How does buying work, and who installs?
